Venezia Lightings.
Storms of light and color over Venice
FRANCESCO ZAVATTA – ART@Hilton until 20 January 2014

After playing with shades of grey and reflections of high waters presented in his much-appreciated 2012 solo show, the palette of the 27-year-old painter Zavatta is now enriched with warmer colors.
One may guess that the main contributing factor to this change is the change in his private life -- his marriage to Anna. The current exhibition is closer to a contemporary love song, presenting work filled with the desire for progress, light, and movement .. this year in the programme ART@Hilton curated by Giudecca 795 ART Gallery.
The exhibition features oils on canvas, as well as works on paper. Zavatta is still bewitched by St. Mark’s, but there’s much more -- a city opening to the world, interacting with the colours of daylight -- so different from the dark canvasses of 2012. There is still a storm -- of wind and ideas and feelings -- captured by the movements of a young brush that seems to slap the canvas yet with a new respect. He retains his fresh look, and there's even the lingering smell of oil paint on these very recent paintings.
His talent has already earned him a place among contemporary Italian painters and, in this latest show, Zavatta's artwork displays remarkable impact, returning around to places visited again and again but appearing different each time.

Zavatta graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence and from the Academy in Venice in 2011; as a very young artist he exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in London, Brussels, Bologna, and Como, finding increasing success with critics and audiences.
At Giudecca 795’s request, Zavatta has returned to painting in the Venice where he studied, but he is not painting for his academic exercises anymore, and the results are for all to admire.

Pensate all'emozione di questi signori olandesi...

A flashmob recreates Rembrandt's painting, The Night Watch, in a shopping centre in Breda to mark the painting's return to the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
The museum reopening followed a 10-year renovation. The painting, completed in 1642, depicts Captain Frans Banning Cocq and his lieutenant, Willem van Ruytenburch, leading out their city guard, Schutterij. Click the picture on the left to enlarge, and watch the above YouTube video!
